Shopify Plus: when should you upgrade to the higher plan?
Shopify Plus starts at €2,100 a month in France: the price, what it really adds, the signals to watch and the sums that tell you when to upgrade from Advanced.

Shopify Plus costs at least €2,100 a month in France. Advanced, the plan just below it, costs €289 on annual billing. So the real question isn’t whether Plus is better. It’s when the price gap starts to pay for itself.
Many brands upgrade too early, because they see Plus as a status symbol. Others upgrade too late, after months of workarounds around a very real limit. Here is how to decide, using Shopify’s official French pricing as displayed on 31 October 2026. Prices change, so always check Shopify’s pricing page before you commit.
Shopify Plus pricing and what you commit to
Shopify lists Plus “from €2,100 a month”, on a one-year or three-year term. “From” is the key word: get a written quote from Shopify before you build your business case.
Here is what separates Advanced from Plus on the French price list:
- Subscription: €289 a month on annual billing for Advanced (€384 monthly), from €2,100 for Plus.
- Online card rate with Shopify Payments: 1.1% + €0.25 on Advanced, 1% + €0.25 on Plus.
- Fees with a third-party payment provider: 0.6% on Advanced, 0.2% on Plus.
- Staff accounts: 15 on Advanced, unlimited on Plus.
- Inventory locations: 10 on Advanced, 200 on Plus.
- B2B catalogues: up to 3 on Advanced, unlimited on Plus.

What Shopify Plus really adds
Plus isn’t a “faster” version of Shopify. Its value lies in a few specific capabilities. If none of them applies to you, you don’t need it.
A fully customisable checkout
This is the most common reason to upgrade. On other plans, checkout customisation is limited. Plus lets you, for example, run separate checkout flows for B2B and consumer customers in the same store.
Serious B2B
Unlimited catalogues, catalogues assigned to companies and their locations, deposits and partial payments: Plus suits B2B sales where terms differ from one account to the next. Our Shopify B2B page covers these cases.
Several stores without several subscriptions
Plus includes up to 9 expansion stores, for international markets or separate physical locations. One catch: each online store needs its own theme licence.
Capacity and automation
- High-capacity checkout and bot protection, useful during big flash sales.
- Launchpad, to schedule and automate promotions.
- Shopify Functions in custom apps, for bespoke logic on discounts, delivery and payment.
- Higher API limits: up to 10x on certain APIs, against 2x on Advanced.
The signals that show you need it
High revenue alone isn’t enough. Look for a concrete limit you are already hitting:
- Your checkout blocks a business need that neither settings nor available extensions can solve.
- You sell to trade customers with more than 3 different price catalogues.
- You run several brands or entities that need separate stores.
- You have outgrown 15 staff accounts or 10 inventory locations.
- Your ERP or PIM connections hit API limits, with measured sync delays.
- Your big campaigns have already overloaded your buying journey or drawn heavy bot traffic.
On the other hand, “we want to look serious” and “our site is slow” are poor reasons. Speed depends mainly on your theme and installed apps, and you can fix those without changing plan.
Working out whether it pays off
Start with the gap: €2,100 minus €289 is €1,811 more per month (comparing Advanced on annual billing with the entry price of Plus). Plus lowers your fees, but by how much?
- If you take payments through Shopify Payments: you save 0.1 points on standard cards. You would need about €1.8 million in monthly card sales for that saving alone to cover the gap.
- If you use a third-party provider: you save 0.4 points on transaction fees. The threshold drops to about €453,000 in monthly sales.
So most brands won’t make Plus pay through fees alone. The real sum compares €1,811 a month (€21,732 a year) with what Plus helps you earn or save:
- the cost of the apps and development that currently work around a limit;
- the time your team spends doing by hand what automation could do;
- the B2B orders you can’t properly take online;
- the margin you gain if an adapted checkout converts better. Measure that with a test rather than assuming it from the start.
Run the numbers over the length of the term. A three-year subscription at the entry price comes to at least €75,600. If your need is still uncertain, that commitment is a risk in its own right.
Alternatives to try before upgrading to Plus
Before you sign, check whether something cheaper solves the problem:
- Moving to Grow or Advanced. Advanced already gives you 15 staff accounts, 10 inventory locations and up to 3 B2B catalogues.
- Using Shopify Markets. To sell internationally, one store with several languages and currencies is often enough, with no expansion store.
- Cleaning up your apps. A poorly chosen app can cause the very slowness you hoped Plus would fix.
- Working on conversion. Conversion rate optimisation often brings more than checkout customisation, especially if your product pages or cart are already losing customers.
How to prepare the move
If the numbers work, here’s the good news: upgrading to Plus doesn’t mean rebuilding your site. The store stays on Shopify. The work is about what you choose to switch on.
- List the needs that justify Plus, in order of priority, with the expected gain for each.
- Get a written quote from Shopify and check the length of the term.
- Review your checkout customisations and apps: which ones are still useful once Plus is active?
- Roll out one project at a time so you can measure the effect of each.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Shopify Plus cost in France?
Shopify lists Plus from €2,100 a month, on a one-year or three-year term (as displayed on 31 October 2026). Ask Shopify for a quote to get your exact price, and add payment fees, apps and any extra theme licences.
At what revenue should you move to Shopify Plus?
There is no official threshold. On payment fees alone, the gap with Advanced evens out at around €1.8 million in monthly card sales with Shopify Payments, or €453,000 with a third-party provider. Below those levels, Plus is justified by a specific need: checkout, B2B, several stores or automation.
Can you do B2B without Shopify Plus?
Yes, up to a point: Shopify’s price list shows up to 3 B2B catalogues on Advanced. Plus becomes useful if you need unlimited catalogues, deposits, partial payments or a dedicated checkout flow for trade customers.
Do you have to rebuild your site to move to Shopify Plus?
No. The store stays on Shopify and keeps its theme, products and orders. The work is on the new features you switch on, such as a customised checkout or expansion stores.
Does Shopify Plus make a site faster?
Not on its own. Plus provides high-capacity checkout for order peaks, but a store’s speed depends mainly on its theme, images and apps. Fix those before you consider changing plan.
